Knoll’s history and experience extends back almost 90 years. Our history is the basis for the trust our customers put in us, as well as the foundation of our business.
Milestones in Knoll’s History
1933: Founding the Company
The company "Martin Knoll" is founded by current managing director Erich Knoll’s grandfather in the Salzburg district of Morzg. At that time, transports were still carried out by horse and cart.
Our first two trucks are purchased.
During the Second World War, the horses and all but one truck are drafted for military service. The business activity is stopped until further notice.
1945: New Beginning
Business operations resume with the remaining trucks. Other vehicles are assembled from old Wehrmacht wrecks.
From 1952: Progress
The operation – at that time located on Alpenstraße in Salzburg – is expanded to include heavy and special transports. Erich Knoll Senior, the younger son of company founder Martin Knoll, takes over the business. In the years that follow, the the fleet continues to be expanded.
The Martin Knoll company moves to Grödig, in the south of Salzburg, and is heavily modernized. Storage is also made possible on the company premises. In addition, a gantry crane with a capacity of up to 20 tons lifting weight is obtained.
2003: Expansion of the Vehicle Fleet
The vehicle fleet is expanded to include additional heavy-duty modules with a payload of 250 tons.
Erich Knoll Junior, the grandson of the company founder, takes over management in the third generation.

2019–2021: New Building
In 2019, today's company headquarters in Puch bei Hallein is purchased. Planning and new construction at the site using the latest technology is as follows: the area is energy self-sufficient and the buildings are heated by means of concrete core activation and surface collectors. In addition, two photovoltaic systems with 200 kWp each will be built.
