History
Knoll’s history and experience extends back to 90 years. Our history is the basis for the trust our customers put in us, as well as the foundation of our business.
Milestones in Knoll’s History
1933: Founding the Company
The company "Martin Knoll" is founded by current managing director Erich Knoll’s grandfather in the Salzburg district of Morzg. At that time, transports were still carried out by horse and cart.
1938: Motorization
Our first two trucks are purchased.
1939–1945: Wartime
During the Second World War, the horses and all but one truck are drafted for military service. The business activity is stopped until further notice.
1945: New Beginning
Business operations resume with the remaining trucks. Other vehicles are assembled from old Wehrmacht wrecks.
From 1952: Progress
The operation – at that time located on Alpenstraße in Salzburg – is expanded to include heavy and special transports. Erich Knoll Senior, the younger son of company founder Martin Knoll, takes over the business. In the years that follow, the the fleet continues to be expanded.
2000: Relocation
The Martin Knoll company moves to Grödig, in the south of Salzburg, and is heavily modernized. Storage is also made possible on the company premises. In addition, a gantry crane with a capacity of up to 20 tons lifting weight is obtained.
2003: Expansion of the Vehicle Fleet
The vehicle fleet is expanded to include additional heavy-duty modules with a payload of 250 tons.
2009: Takeover
Erich Knoll Junior, the grandson of the company founder, takes over management in the third generation.
From 2010: Implementation of Various Showcase Projects
2010/2011:
Delivery with temporary storage of 2 transformers of 100 tons from Linz to Wallsee (Lower Austria) by road transport and roll-on/roll-off ship, including manual installation on the foundations on site
2012–2015:
Construction of the Reißeck power plant in Carinthia
2015–2017:
Construction of the Obervermunt power plant in Vorarlberg
2017:
Largest heavy transport in the company's history with a total weight of 320 tons from Enns to Rohrdorf (DE) by land and water
2019: Name Change
Knoll Logistik GmbH und Co. KG is formed from Knoll Transport GmbH.
2019–2021: New Building
In 2019, today's company headquarters in Puch bei Hallein is purchased. Planning and new construction at the site using the latest technology is as follows: the area is energy self-sufficient and the buildings are heated by means of concrete core activation and surface collectors. In addition, two photovoltaic systems with 200 kWp each will be built.

The move has taken place in early 2021.
2023: Knoll turns 90 Years
Numerous successes and achievements have been recorded in the company's 90-year history.
